Koh Libong, Home of Dugong and Plover Bird (Eating crabs) |

For nature lovers, Koh Libong is their dreamed island to watch birds especially the migrating Siberian Birds at the end of the year. Tub Beach is the area to sea Plover Bird eating. crabs. A lot of seaweed is found around Koh Libong where the large group of Dugong in Thailand usually comes to enjoy eating.
Koh Libong in Koh Libong Sub District consists of 3 villages. Most residents are Muslims. They are fisherman and gardeners. This island is reputed as the source of sea grass which is the major food of Dugong, the rare manatee in Trang Sea.
Ban Nakhao, located on eastern part of island facing the coast, is the big Muslims community and a center of the island where the pier is located. Due to slightly steep of the beach, the pier has to be streched into the sea. This area has a beautiful view, especially sunrise scene at dawn. Swimming is not recommended around here. There are many shops and food stores at Ban Nakhao. It is such good idea to drop at a coffe house along the beach to take a sip of coffee after admiring a beautiful scene of sunrise. Mukda mountain, located close to the pier, is a good view point where you may clearly see the line of sea grass or perhaps the Dugong.
Ban LangKhao, is located on the western side of the island with road connecting to Ban Nakhao. The area is along white beach where many resorts are located. It is another beautiful point to view the sunset and its atmosphere is rather peaceful than at Ban Nakhao.
Juhoy Cape and Tup Beach, located on the east of the island, is the site of Windlife Presenvation Center of the Libong Regional Department. Visitors can come here to see thousands of bird from Siberia getting away from the cold, come to stay in Juhoy Cape, especially the most popular rare bird like the Crab Plover. Many islets can be found at the end of the cape where Tub Beach is located. People can walk across the beach at Juhoy Cape at the low tide to Tup Beach. Juhoy Cape has a long shady beach bu water around here is rather deep. Besides, there are other beaches at Koh Libong the can be reached by road such Had Tung Ya Ka and Had Sai Yao. Toe Kae Bay is the place where the forest protectiion center is located. The outstanding around here is the stone beach of volcanic lava character. Keep fish alive in water by a floating basket is on way of life of villagers in Koh Libong. Delicious seafood restaurants are also available for visitors along the beach.
There are 2-3 small resorts on service around Had LangKhao area. Those Who enjoy sleeping in tend at Juhoy Cape, the Wildlife Preservation Center has enough space for camping. One food store is on service.
Koh Libong Sub District, Kantang District
From Ban Chao Mai Pier, take passenger long tailed boat to Koh Libong for 20 minutes. Passenger boat are on service all day because there are big communities on this island consisting of 3 villages. Touring around the island can be made by hiring long tail boat or driving along compact lateritic road around the island. |
